I’ve been an advertising professional in Asheville for many years. I founded two successful and respected agencies here. But, like Groucho said, “Time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like a banana.” Now it’s just me, just the way I like it.

My previous website was full of all this high-minded missionary zeal about The Path to Brand Meaning. Which isn’t to say it wasn’t true. It just didn’t seem to be what clients wanted. Nobody really cares about recipes. They care about the cake. So what about you? Are you reaching your targets? Are people talking about your ads? Are you spending a bunch of dough and getting boring, uninspired work for your trouble? Or do you just need a new logo? Doesn’t matter. I can bake you a great cake. And I’ll throw in all that Brand Meaning stuff as icing.

Although I’ve certainly done a lot of collaborating with writers, designers, and whatnot in my career, all of the copy, art direction, design and TV editing on this site is mine. I would never try to take credit for work I haven’t actually done.

In the interest of full disclosure, not all of the stuff here has actually been used by the respective clients. Sometimes I just couldn’t sway them to my way of thinking. But that doesn’t neccessarily mean that the thinking wasn’t sound.

One last note: Whenever I interview kids just entering the profession, the first piece of advice I give them is to edit their portfolios down to just a handful of pieces. I didn’t follow my own advice here. I’ve included way too much. Sorry.
